Columbus Nighttime Lighting: Short North Arts District

Columbus welcomes its newest art installation titled, “The Makers Monument,” created by Mark ReigelmanFrancis Krahe and Associates designed the lighting for the 20 foot, 7,000-pound steal sculpture located in the heart of Columbus’ Short North District. Inspired by goods that have been made in Columbus throughout the city’s history, the pattern outlines 50 different object silhouettes, including rocking horses, whistles, and sawblades. Reigelman notes how light shining through the piece creates different shadows throughout the day, which highlights the vibrant activity of the Short North Arts District ,home to over 300 exciting businesses, majority locally owned. “The Makers Monument” commemorates High Street’s position as a maker's hub.

The massive sculpture is Columbus’s largest single investment in public art. The project was planned alongside the recently completed $35 million renovation of High Street in the Short North. The Short North Alliance hosted several dedication events during Gallery Hop on Saturday, Aug. 7 for the completion of “The Makers Monument.”
