Historic LA Beaux Arts Architecture Restoration

Built in 1912, Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) boasts beautiful Beaux Arts architecture. Francis Krahe and Associates, along with Levin & Associates Architects, worked to renovate the exterior of the historic LA building while keeping the historic character intact. LAAC added approximately 11,800 square feet of new retail storefronts on both 7th and Olive.

Over the past 150 years light sources have evolved from oil to gas to electricity and incandescent fluorescents to LED. The compact scale, low energy, and good color quality of LED sources presents opportunities to enjoy these historic buildings at night with new perspective. Exterior lighting of historic landmarks is an effective method to activate and support urban communities. Where historic spaces require increased light levels, historic lights should be restored and renovated, and supplemented with discretely placed, preferably indirect, lighting to avoid competing with historic lighting.
