LA Historic Landmark Renovation: Tower Theatre

Tower Theatre was originally designed in 1927 by renowned architect S. Charles Lee. The theatre was the first in Los Angeles wired for sound. In 1988, the theatre closed and the space remained unused until this transformation.

Francis Krahe & Associates provided the complete interior and exterior lighting design for the major transformation of this historic landmark by architects Foster + Partners in collaboration with Gruen Associates.

There is often an opportunity to improve lighting performance and energy efficiency by creating a visually authentic replica historic fixtures. The goal is to retain the look of 100-year-old incandescent lighting, but have high energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs.
